Mosser Hosts Local “Celebrity” Guest Readers During Read Across America Week

Throughout the first week of March, Mosser Elementary School celebrated Read Across America with “celebrity” guest readers. Local dignitaries – everyone from Mayor Pawlowski, City Council Members, Local Business Leaders, Allentown School District Board Members, Lehigh University staff, ASD Directors, and even a WFMZ News Anchor – spent time reading to Mosser students and the Cleveland students who are attending classes at Mosser while their school was under construction due to the recent fire.

Read Across America is the National Education Association’s annual reading campaign that serves schools and communities by building both an awareness of the importance of reading, as well as the motivation to read in students. Read Across America is a week-long event that kicks off on Monday, March 2, the birth date of beloved children’s author, Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. This year’s featured book that was read to the students is Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss. The story seeks to inspire and motivate children to believe in themselves and to imagine bright futures that are full of possibilities.

“Our hope was that by bringing accomplished members of our community to our school, it would cultivate interest in Mosser’s students about the many career opportunities that the city of Allentown and the surrounding communities of the greater Lehigh Valley can offer,” says Tiffany Polek, Principal of Mosser Elementary School.

Guest readers visited the school from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. all week.
